I am a college student who will be volunteering in hospitals in Kathmandu and Pokhara from May-August. I am looking for recommendations on shoes (must be close-toed) i.e. waterproofing, hiking boots vs. tevas, etc. I do not plan on trekking. Also, any additional advice on packing/living in Nepal for 3 months would be appreciated.
Finally - has anyone visited Tibet via Nepal? I'd like to take a short trip...
Thanks!

I visited Tibet via Nepal about 4 years ago.At that point Chinese wanted groups of no smaller than six,I think they have changed that rule. They want the cash. Also they gave our agent a fit with the entry visa ,but it worth trip. When I was there the Chinese had made a great impact on Tibetan culture. You may have read recently about the railroad to Tibet from central China. It is a beautiful place, but go now because it is changing fast.Enjoy it
