Shanghai visa free for 144 hours?

Jump to last reply

Last Friday, we went to the Sydney Australia office to get visas for China, as we had discovered that our 72 hour visa free stopover in Shanghai was actually 76 hours.

We were informed on Friday, that 144hour stopovers without a visa are now available in Shanghai and a couple of other places. (not Beijing). We were told, however, to check with our airline, Qantas.

This has proved to be impossible! After a two hour wait to get through to a Qantas representative through our travel agent, no one would confirm that Qantas will let us on the plane without a visa. We are seasoned senior travellers, but would really like confirmation before the event

Has anyone had any experience with this visa free stopover? Apparently, it has been valid since 30 January, 2016, but travel agents etc are not yet up to date.
