Searching Flights from JFK to Malaysai, average price range?

I am trying to go visit my sister who lives in Malaysia, but I have not had any luck with flights. I found a very cheap flight for $1100 but it flies through Saudi Arabia and I am not comfortable staying there for 10hrs. Now I found a $1700 through Paris that has the perfect itinerary, but am not sure if I should keep waiting to find a cheaper flight. Travel dates are December 21- January . Can anyone help me who is experienced in buying flights to Malaysia or anyways I could find a cheaper flight?

Check the Malaysian Air website. Prices will be high, as this is the most popular time of the year to go to SE Asia.

It's a bit early to find the slightly cheaper fares. I'd wait and see for a couple more months. It shouldn't go beyond $1,700 for the next 2-3 months - whether it'll go down is another story.

But I agree with others that flying peak Christmas time, you really shouldn't expect much less, especially if you're coming back early Jan.

It's not the most obvious choice, but Turkish airlines offers one-stop flights to Kuala Lumpur that are competitively priced. The airline is expanding rapidly with new equipment and routes. Going east there is a nine-hour connection in Istanbul but coming back it is less than two hours.

I don't know the route you are travelling but I do love Malaysian airlines. They are fabulous.
