Sea food near Tsim Sha Tsui

A “small” seafood restaurant “along the waterfront" in TST does not ring a bell. Do you mean Cantonese seafood, or European, or some other cuisine? Did it have any outdoor space or was it on a high floor of an office tower? Was it in a mall or a hotel? That might help pinpoint it for me. If you mean a stand-alone restaurant that was not part of a hotel or a mall, I don’t know of any along the waterfront in TST.

There used to be the excellent Yu seafood restaurant (Cantonese) which was indoors in the Regent Hotel (now Intercontinental) which is on the waterfront, and had great food and views, that sadly closed a few years ago and has been replaced by a Nobu (which is seafood of a sort, but very expensive). There is Habitu on the water by the Star Ferry, but it is Italian with some seafood, not Cantonese seafood.

The main esplanade area on the waterfront in TST has no restaurants at all (other than a Starbucks and another coffee shop). In the Harbour City/Ocean Centre shopping mall there are some large restaurants like Victoria City Seafood Restaurant, which is good, but I would not call it “small”. There are several other restaurants in the mall, esp up on the 4th floor where there are restaurants with outdoor space, but to the best of my knowledge none are just seafood. But take a look at http://www.harbourcity.com.hk/dining.php and see if any restaurant there rings a bell with you.

TST is far more tourists than locals, but on the waterfront for seafood I probably would go to Thai Mary, which obviously is Thai, with some Indian. (I a not a huge fan of Cantonese-style seafood.) It’s a little bit back from the main waterfront area of TST:

This is not the restaurant you're looking for but 2 weeks ago we were treated to a nice dinner along the coast by one of the owner of the Gold Coast Yacht and Country Club in Hong Kong(New Territories). We first went to a seafood market along the coast to pick what we want to eat and then the chosen food were delivered to a local restaurant on top of the nearby mountain where they cooked it the way we wanted.

Thanks so much for all the detailed answers. Maybe I am mistaken about the location and it was years ago and things have changed. Will be in HK early Dec and hope by walking the area I might jog my memory....else will try out the places suggested. And I love both Thai as well as Cantonese food!!

First you go to the seafood market which is just pass the marina complex. There will be around 10 - 15 shops or stalls by the entrance of the commercial fisherman's landing pier. The shops will have live seafood in tanks as well as canned and dried abalone, wine and liquor shops in the same area. Choose what you want to eat and bargain the price down and once you've chose your restaurant tell the shop keeper to send the food there. We ate in a big restaurant which you will need to drive to, short drive - 2 or 3 minutes, and it's located at the top of the hill with a great view of the marina. In you case I would recommend that you choose a restaurant near the market or just across the street from it. They will most likely have English speaking staff and menu.
