I will be in Chaing Mai in May, I seem to recall that some postings, indicating that there is a school you can visit and bring various school supplies for the children. My wife and I are very interested in doing this. Does anyone have any information on this subject as to where it is and do you have to contact the school to visit. Would appreciate any response.

I spent a day there in January and it was definitely the highlight of my trip. You can stay there if you want or can also stay at Joy's House which is a bit more upscale but is owned by the same woman who runs the school.
They have a store with products (mostly made by the children) and I bought several things there -- the children sell you the stuff and write out the receipt etc which is part of the "education". They learn all the normal stuff but also are encouraged to pursue things that teach skills which can be used later -- cooking, farming, salesperson, tour guide etc. I also wired them money when I got back. At the time I was there they did not take credit cards so you need to bring cash.
Gloria - when we are in Thailand, my mother and I would like to visit the School for Life. How did you arrange your visit?
I called when I got to Chiang Mai (I was there 10 days and arranged it for day three). But I'm not sure you have to make an appointment. You will, however, need a driver and since it's not easy to find the driver may want to call and get directions. It's about an hour outside of the city.
Gloria, would gifts of books, coloured pencils etc be appropriate?
Yes and anything in English. They spend an hour a day when they all can only speak english and all volunteers (many are from Germany) must only speak english. Making them bi-lingual is a big part of the program as is art and music and theatre. The children range from 4-18.
