Royal Meridien Phuket Yacht Club

Thinking of this for our November 2004 trip. I've read contradictory reviews of this on this forum. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks

There once was a traveller named Bob
Who worked in a bank for a job.
While sojourning in Thailand
He stole Baht on an island
In Bangkok they now call him Rob.

I stopped here just before it's refit 5 or so years ago. I found it wonderful. The rooms are large, with beautiful private balcony's.

Being quite small the hotel has a bit of a private club atmosphere - its very quiet and this may not be to all tastes. The staff are charming and there is a delightful beach adjacent.

If you want to get about you will need to hire a car / jeep as you are a bit away from the towns and other major developements.

It has (ahem) been many years, but I stayed there before it was the Meridien. It was lovely and quiet, and the rooms were large with big outdoor spaces to sit and sun (or to sit in the shade). When I go a beach resort, I have no interest in going into town, so the location was perfect for me.

Thanks for the positive input. Of course, my patty mind noted that both of you recounted good experiences a few years ago. Does anyone know the level of recent upkeep? Bob, I'll see you on the 27th, sans poem.

My husband and I just returned from our honeymooon trip to Thailand. We stayed at Royal Meridian Yacht Club and absolutly loved it. The room was amazing, we upgraded to a "junior suite" and I highly recommend doing so for the price. The room was quite large, and the bathroom was enormous. We had a large private balcony with chaise lounges and table that overlooked the ocean as well. The staff is very very friendly and the atmosphere is quiet. If you want to go to a place in Phuket that is away from the craziness of Patong and relaxing and peaceful this is it. It is about a 25 minute cab ride to Patong. The adjacent beach is very nice, although we stayed mostly by the pool which has a view of the ocean. As you can see, I can go on and on about this hotel. We are already making travel plans to return here next year. If you want any more information please feel free to email me at

Enjoy your trip!

I'd like to thank Dana for her thoughtful help in reply to my inquiry. She was exceedingly generous with her time and impressions.

The deluxe sea facing rooms have a very large balcony with sun loungers and patio furniture. It may be worthwhile checking out whether the price of the upgrade to a Junior Suite. I would say the size of the deluxe rooms are probably close to a lot of standard hotel Junior Suite sizes.

PJKeay-having corresponded with Dana, we've chosen to do exactly what you suggested and go with the Deluxe Seaside rooms. Now a further question. When you're on the balcony of a seaside room, is there a mosquito problem? In fact, when we stayed at the Chedi, the patio was pretty much unusable because of mosquitoes. No real problem, we just hung out at the beach/pool.

No not when I was there (early April). A couple of tiny Geckos about, I think they usually see off the other creepy crawlies etc.
