rkkwan's HK Tramways ride Kennedy Town - Happy Valley - Shau Kei Wan

Jump to last reply

A poster who lives in HK said in a different thread that in her experience, a HK Tramways ride from one end to the other takes around 6 hours. I thought that was ludicrous, so I rode the whole route early this evening to see how long it takes.

Granted, it was a relatively quiet day in HK - 8th day of the Chinese New Year, a Thursday, and first day of public school after CNY holiday - with little traffic. So, this might be best case scenario.

Anyways, my tram left Kennedy Town at the western end of the line at 6:00p. It passed the Admiralty at 6:37p. In that other thread, I said it should take under 45 minutes from the JWMarriott to Kennedy Town, and at least in this case, I am correct.

At 6:51p, my tram passed the Canal Street W stop before turning into Happy Valley, arriving HV at 7:02p. That trip took 62 minutes.

My next tram departed Happy Valley at 7:11p and passed the Canal Street W stop at 7:21p, exactly 30 minutes after my first time there. I got to Shau Kei Wan at the eastern end of the line at 8:04p. This second ride took 53 minutes.

So, total duration for both rides was 115 minutes. If I had taken a direct Kennedy Town - Shau Kei Wan tram (infrequent, only twice an hour), or if I had switched at one of the stops on the main line instead of going into Happy Valley, I could have gotten from the western end to the eastern end of the main line in 85 minutes.

Picture of every single stop my tram passed, with time:
