Renter BEWARE on Koh Tao

2009/2/9
Just returned from Thailand and want to pass along valuable information!

Do NOT stay at the SILVER CLIFF RESORT on the north end of Sairee beach on Koh Tao, Thailand! We borrowed snorkel gear from them only to find out it was broken. When we went back to tell them, they demanded that WE broke it, and we pay them 1,000 Baht (4x the price). Then the husband threatened to hit us with a rock the size of a brick when we refused to pay!! (we paid and ran)

DO NOT STAY AT THE SILVER CLIFF RESORT.

Tell EVERYONE.

I have no idea of the veracity of this report, but I do note that this is laure's first Fodor's post.

Just reinforces my long held belief that some people should not be allowed access to the web!

Reads like another troll. Never heard of a broken snorkeling gear scam in Thailand before - anyone else?

If they're not a troll, then they should have their passports revoked for stupidity. What kind of idiot walks away from a rental stand without checking out the equipment first?

I once heard of a guy who rented a waverunner in Pattaya and when he brought it back the rental co. pointed out "new" scratch marks and demanded that the tourist pay for it, which he did. You really have to be careful when renting items without doing a full visual inspection
