RED shirts have invaded my neighborhood

hey gang it's been a long while since I've posted, I see they've remodeled the place.
I hope every one is well.

Anyways today the reds have taken over victory monument, I hope this ends well, If not I may have to be airlifted of the roof.

Hey, orgy!! Good to see you posting here! FYI .... DS Brad has just arrived in BKK in the last 24 hours or so. He says the demonstration is really "not much"... what do you think?

I remember riding the skytrain routes and thinking I would see something at Victory Monument one of the last times things got anxious (I think it was last August?). There was NOTHING at Victory Monument then. Does this mean they are expanding?

I'm headed over to BKK in about 10 days so this is something for me to consider. Hopefully they will NOT try to close the airport again. That was UGLY.

Hey dude how's married life? Hope you and the Mrs are well and are expecting little ones soon.

The "reds" are trying to surround Bangkok and trap everyone here for the Songkran holiday. Don't forget to do the ceremonial water splashing on them in a couple of days!

The return of Orgy7. Hip-hip-hooray. Tell us of your recent adventures. Let us know how the red shirt protests are working out. It's always great to get the view of someone on the ground. News reports tend to be insufficient.

The current Thai PM have just announced a limited state of emergency and have declared tomorrow, Friday 10th, as a holiday for all state enterprises.

Good to hear from you, orgy. It sounds like you have a front row seat for the demonstrations. Keep us posted.

Eek. I'm having December deja-vu all over again.

Carol, how crazy and ironic that both your trips seem to time themselves perfectly for civil unrest.

On a side note, and not to get too political, but this is so sad to watch. If that criminal thug (Thaksin) somehow manages to weasel his way back into the country and/or return to power again, I doubt I'll be wanting to visit anytime soon. I feel worse for the people there, though, who have to go through yet another year of complete instability. My thoughts go out to all our Thai-based Fodorites.

Filmwill... what IS it about little ole' ME that causes such political demonstrations?? haha...

Seriously, I do hope things don't get out of hand like they did in December! That was pretty scary; but once we got to BKK, everything was fantastic for three weeks.

This morning there are not that many protesters. the police or who ever have a great opportunity take control of the situation but they keep on wearing kid gloves with both sides.

As long as the airport stays open, they can protest all they want.

Brad reports from soi 4-6-8 area that things are "normal" there, not to worry. If the redshirts plan to camp outside the Penn, I'm glad I don't stay in that area of the city!

Hanuman, numberwise, are we talking thousands or hundreds or dozens? What's their major beef?

Most have left victory monument already. But since the police don't do anything there are bands of protesters roaming around all over the city

Carol, the Penn thing is just a joke! The numbers are in the tens of thousands just yesterday the taxi, over 20,000 cabs, blocked the roads around Bangkok.

Hanuman
Do you think flying into BKK and trying to get into the city will be a problem? If the taxis are blocking the roads, how does one get around (skytrain of course)....

I left Bangkok yesterday and traffic was normal. It seems that the reds have moved and I'm confident that you'll have no trouble Carol.

Thanks for that update, hanuman. Brad is already in the city. I believe you have his phone number, should you want to get in touch. I'll be arriving late on 21st.
