Reaching the Summit of Everest
For anyone interested in following the final portion of Bill Burke's attempt to reach the summit of Mt Everest:

Reports are coming in almost daily now, I am on the edge of my chair. If he succeeds, he will be the oldest American to reach all 8 summits around the world. He only started climbing in 2002!

I was going to put this in a seperate thread, but since we are talking Everest...
Sherpa scales Everest record 17th time
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap_travel/20..._nepal_everest
“Appa -- a modest, thinly built 46-year-old -- is one of the most respected climbers in the mountaineering community. His closest competitor, fellow Sherpa guide Chewang Nima, 41, scaled the peak a 14th time last year. Appa's climbing partner Lakpa Gyelu, made his 13th trip to the summit on Wednesday.
Gyelu was once the fastest climber to reach the peak, sprinting from the base camp at 5,300 meters (17,400 feet) to the summit in 10 hours and 56 minutes, but his record was broken by Pemba Dorjee who achieved the feat in eight hours and 10 minutes.”

Those sherpa's are "super-human"!
I had no idea there were so many climbers trying to summit until I read Everest News. There are all sorts of people trying to break records including this guy:

This sad news, just in:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070517/.../nepal_everest
My heart goes out to those families and their loved ones.
Plus, Bill's buddy Mark has just pulled out.
