Rajasthan for 7 nights..help please

Hi,
planning trip to asia in March and will have 7 nights in rajasthan.
I have been to udaipur and jaipur before.

Here are some thoughts..would love advice

1st itinerary
Fly to Jaipur from Delhi
2 nights Shapura bagh
2 nights Rawla narlai
1 night Mihir garh
2 nights Jodhpur (Taj palace-if we can afford)

But started to think...this will be end of our trip, my husband will be joining from USA.
What about 3 nights Jaisalmer-is it worth drive? thinking possibly
3 nights jodhpur and possible 1 night stop in between.

Don't want to do too much driving and want to see things but also relax.

Please I would love suggestions!!!
J

Take the train between Jodhpur & Jaiselmer. When there's nothing to entertain you outside there'll be plenty to entertain you inside.

Jaiselmer was one of my top places in India, however Jaipur and Jodhpur were great too. We took the train lie MmePerdu said.

The first time I went to Rajasthan I stayed in posh places and I liked Jaiselmer better than Jodhpur. The second time I went to both I stayed in more interesting places, in the town rather than the fort in Jaiselmer, and in the old city in Jodhpur. I came away with Jodhpur being one of my favorite cities anywhere. And I've been a lot of places.

My point, where one stays makes a great deal of difference and if the point of a trip is to stay in the fanciest place you can afford then, in a way, it hardly matters what city you're in. But if the point, as it was on my second go, is to experience a city more deeply, then choose accommodations for location rather than level of luxury. You may not find a palace in the most interesting locales, but there are very comfortable accommodations almost everywhere, often with the added bonus of more persoanl service.

I hear you. where do you recommend in Jodhpur? Have you stayed at Shapura Bagh or Rawla Narlai?
Thoughts?

"Have you stayed at Shapura Bagh or Rawla Narlai?"

I have not. I'd check reviews on Trip Advisor for current ones as mine wouldn't be up to date enough to be useful. I think I gave you one of my favorite nearby places out in the countryside, Rohet Garh, on one of your other threads, unique.

For the full Jodhpur experience you want to be in the old city, the "blue" part. The buildings are older and smaller but many to choose from. If you decide on that area, look for one with a roof terrace and preferably with a rooftop restaurant. The best part is being outside at night with the fort lit above you.

The 3 "palace" accommodations that I know of in Jodhpur are not near the fort and old city, in boring locations (boring for me as I love walking out the door and immediately being in the thick of things). You can get a taxi but it just isn't the same thing, imo.
