Purchasing furniture in Thailand shipping to Hawaii

Aloha,

I am going to Thailand for a vacation/shopping to furnish my home in Hawaii. Majority of my trip will be spent in the islands with a few days tagged on in Bangkok to shop for furniture. Any recommendations regarding places/locations in the city to shop and/or info for shipping from Thailand to the US would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for any advice given to steer me in the right direction

I believe HawaiianTraveler has had furniture shipped from Thailand to Hawaii. Hopefully he will see this thread and respond to you.

Generally, people go to Chiang Mai to shop for furniture. Be aware that the shipping will cost at least as much as the furniture.

there are a number of places in bkk right on sukhumvit between sois 6-24 on that side of the street...

buy a nancy chandler map of bkk and there are many places listed on it as well..

many have bought from a shop near the SD floating market about 2 hours from bkk..

chiang mai is a good location too...

be sure to ask how the wood has been dried as it can be prone to cracking...

shipping is very expensive... be aware before you buy... also understand fully how you will get your purchases once they arrive in the usa... this can entail huge costs too..

Chiang Mai has amazing furniture. A family member bought bedroom and diningroom furniture there. He lives in Illinois, which is not humid or tropical like Hawaii and Thailand, and so there is a crack or two in the diningroom table (but not all that bad since it 'looks like' a seam in the design. You should not have that type of difficulty in Hawaii since the climate there is much more like the climate in Thailand.

Enjoy your shopping!

Thank you everyone for your input...I'm not sure if I will have enough time to get up to Chiang Mai, unfortunately, as I have heard great things about it and seems to be quite the place to get your shopping on ....It seems like each of you are familiar with Thailand, any must dos while I am there?? I am very big on outdoor activities, adventure etc. I know of all the common places to visit, however I'm sure there are so many more places that are amazing once you get off the beaten path. So far I am planning to visit Bangkok, Koh Samui and Phuket....thanks again for all of your help,,, happy travels to each of you !

you may find phuket and samui to be duplicates, samui being the nicer place..

We have purchased a dining room table and chairs and a coffee table at Royal Thai Handicraft out near the Floating Market. They were both custom made and took about six months to arrive after we bought them. Here is a thread about the shipping. make sure to bargain as it does not cost that much to ship to Hawaii.

Thank you Hawaiiantraveler...funny enough it's because of you and one of your posts that brought me to this site..which is amazing by the way! Thank you! Saw you are either heading to Japan or just got back (still figuring this site out)...enjoy if you are going otherwise hope you had a great trip! If you are going, visit Nikko, beautiful mountain town about 3 hours outside of Tokyo. Japan has so many beautiful places, but Nikko was my favorite. I will look into the shipping, is it best to get an entire crate or have each item individually shipped by the seller??? Thanks again for your help...I'll be in Bangkok for a limited time so really want to line things up as best as I can before I get there.

Aloha

some places will arrange for one shipper to gather things from different vendors and ship them all together

HT is always just done with one trip to Japan and planning another!

the few times I have shipped things, it has always been cheaper to pack everything in a big container instead of multiple small containers.
