On our drive back from Phuket we stopped just south of Hua Hin in a smaal coastal beach area called Pranburi and spent a night at a brand new place called the Praseban resort. It's a boutique type of place, probably about a dozen studios. It was excellent, very quiet, relaxed, excellent service. Ideal get away from it all place. There is nothing close at all, it is though near the Evason resort area, and is about 30 minutes south of Hua Hin.
The weather for anyone visiting was wet and rainy all the way from Phuket driving north until we got to Pranburi and Hua Hin where the sun came out. Long drive!

How far north from Phuket was the hotel? What were the rates like?
Prices range from 3,500 to about 8,000 depending on accommodation. We stayed basic room with a local promotion deal. It's no where near Phuket. The road distance Bangkok to Phuket is about 860km and Pranburi is about 230km south of Bangkok, so around 630km from Phuket. I think it would be too 'quiet' for most but it adds to a lot of places down the coastline from Bangkok to the 'islands' that are well worth stopping. A couple of hours drive a day lets you stay at some great places along the coast that 99% of visitors just fly over. Don't know why more people don't beach-hop down the coast, way different from the busy resorts and some classic places can be found. Another one is Chumphon Cabana, about 400km south of Bangkok. It's the place you can take boats to Koh Tao and Koh Samui.
