My husband and I are trying to plan our one big vacation for the year and are considering traveling to Sri Lanka. It has been on our list of top choices for some time.
We're wondering if people have any thoughts on whether infrastructure will be repaired enough for a late summer visit. We don't want to get in the way of any rebuilding, but we'd still like very much to visit Sri Lanka. Should we postpone our trip a year? We've noted that the 2 hotels we were looking at staying in were both generally unharmed by the tsunami.
Many thanks!

Buster,
You have not mentioned the places you propose to travel in S.Lanka
Barring the coast line at Galle that bore the brunt of the tsunami, virtually all other places are ok for travel.
Most locals are calling on investments & tourists to support them rather than relying on the usual aid that probably just about trickles down to them.
Your $$ & Euros could make a big difference to those in dire need now and what a noble deed you would contribute to mankind.
NOW is the best time. But better late than never if you did postpone !
Check out the properties listed on i-escape.com. I've stayed in many of them when I visted Sri Lanka several years ago. According to their website, most all of the properties are up and running and would be very happy to have guests. They tell you specifically which hotels were affected and which weren't. If you have more specific questions, just ask. I really love Sri Lanka.
