Planning for Thailand,Cambodia and Vietnam tour
Hi Guys, I'm planning for Thai,Cambodia and Vietnam tour-My husband and 10 year old daughter are both coming,we're all excited actually
.Main question is safety for my daughter and is boarder crossing between Thai-Cambodia-Vietnam safe?I'm having hard time doing this itenerary; and i have to add this is my husband and daughters first international tour so any suggestions and pointers are highly appreciated. Day 1. -Bangkok to Ayutthaya-4 days -We're going to skip the fun at BKK and head for Ayutthaya for 4 days, i'm a bit of photo enthusiast and my daughter like nature,Elephant ride is something shes interested.(is 4 days too long or short?how many days is sufficient to see all of Ayutthaya?). Day 5 -Heading to Bangkok- 6 days. We're gonna visit the Siam water world first,temples ,palace,visit floating market,and we might sign up for cooking classes too and shopping. Day 7 -Cross boarder to Siem Reap,7 days. Planning of getting a 3 days pass at Angkor wat,visit temple,palace and signing up for khmer cooking class.Does anyone know of activities for my little girl in this part of town? Day 14-Bus ride to Phom pehn,5 days. Spend time visiting museums,palace and temples .Any suggestion? Day 20- bus ride to Saigon for 6 days. Visit tourist attraction,havent really had the time figuring out what to do in Vietnam ,apart from i really love Pho.Any suggestion? Might visit Nha trang or Hanoi....Thats pretty much it,any feedback and suggestion on hotels,accomodation,restaurants,child friendly activities and points of interest are all greatly appreciated,and yes we only got average budget. I have a couple of comments, having been in Vietnam and Siem Reap recently.
One, there aren't nearly enough "tourist attractions" in Saigon to merit 6 days there. 2 days is plenty. Skipping it altogether in favor of other parts of Vietnam would be fine, too (it's a big city, with less "flavor of Vietnam" than other cities in Vietnam). Personally, I'd head for Hanoi, Sapa (although I haven't been there) and Halong Bay instead.
Two, you say you're going to Siem Reap for 7 days, but getting the 3-day temple pass. What do you plan to do for the other 4 days? Also, note that Angkor Wat is just one of many temple complexes. You will need to have a plan for which temples you want to see, and hire a driver, or a driver and guide, to take you around. We spent two full days touring 7 sites. Others spend weeks.

I see you are going from Bangkok to Siem Reap. I have gone there by road 4 times in 12 months,so, if you need assistance,just ask. Pleased to assist to avoid the traps.
Regarding Siem Reap. Three days at Temples isnt enough. Get a 7 day pass for $60.0, rather than $40 for a 3 day pass. You dont have to spend 7 days at the temples, but, it probably works out cheaper that way. Not just the main ones of Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm , Preah Khan, Banteay Srei.
Just take your time and you will enjoy the temples more. I have done 4 trips in from March 2010, to January 2011 to Siem Reap.
Check out the Silk Farm there, and also, the stone carving workshop near the Rolous Group. Over near the Rolous group there is a nice place there that does traditional weaving

I did 3.5 days in July, 2010, and would have like to cut it back to 2 days, but, I had already made plane bookings that could not be changed. At Phnom Penh,the Killing Fields and S-21 Prison can be done in half a day. The Museum is nice. I didnt bother with the palace. You will be going stir crazy with 5 days there.

The reason why i'm adding days to one destination is because we're travelling with my daughter- but you really got strong point on everything.I might consider Hanoi since train system is not that bad it'll be a good experience for all of us too.Thanks for your suggestions,really appreciate it.

I would not bother going back again to Phnom Penh, after my trip in July last year, but, have done 4 Siem Reap trips , and may go back again in Sepember , 2011
When do you plan going on your trip? I feel the wet season is best, as the rain only comes in the afternoon and the place is much greener . I was in Siem Reap in January, 2011, and it was dry and dusty...Never again in that season..

Best plan is last quarter of this year-but i really have to check on my daughter's school,and i really want this to be a foolproof vacation and i'm really getting into details now .Thanks for all the suggestion and tips(can't see these pointers in handbook ).It really helps me a lot in planning.

Cambodia will be very safe for your daughter. Just take sensible precautions crossing roads. She may enjoy a trip out to Lake Tonle Sap. Try and avoid the closest 'tourist' village - very touristy. Also I've been thinking about doing a half day cycling tour of the area. (Grasshopper Adventures) May also be a possibility.
I really enjoyed Battangbang. The attraction is the countryside. Hire motos or a tuk tuk and explore. Do a google search on the bamboo train.
