Planning a three weeks trip next March - April! HELP

Thanks to a super ALITALIA offer, we will visit Japan (3rd time) from 27 March to 17 April.
Now, it’s the time to plan in detail our trip. This year we would like (me and my Wife, early ’60 retired…) to see both important destinations and less crowded places.
This is my first attempt, PLEASE GIVE ME ANY INPUT / IDEA / SUGGESTION. I am ready to change because it’s so difficult (at least for me..) to decide where to go and how long to stay ….
From Narita:
2 days in Yokohama and Katamura,
2 days Mount Fuji
3 days Takayama and Matsumoto
2 days Nikko
2 days Sendai and Yamadera OR Matsushima
5 days Sapporo and Hokkaido
4 days Tokyo
We think to buy a 3 weeks JR pass so mainly we would like to use trains but if / when needed (muontains..) we can catch also bus.
Final question: too many places? Too much time to spend travelling?
GRAZIE for any help. Arrivederci.
Gianni (Milano, Italy)
