So I'm thinking of a week-long trip to Phuket, and my friend got me this short guide to the place: www.sojourns.com.sg/blog/asia/things-to-do-in-phuket -- I like the activities and places suggested in the article, but does anyone have anything to add? What are some other must-sees and must-dos? What about budget hotels or the best food places? Good local hang-outs? Tips? Anything will be fine.
I'll be there with my boyfriend (both in our 20s) and so romantic activities will be even better!! We're trying to make our itinerary meatier... We're up for anything -- from lazy beach days, to relaxing spas, to hangovers from crazy nights at discos/clubs. ![]()
Thank you in advance.

What kind of budget limits do you have? What do you want to spend on a hotel per day? Phuket is more expensive than Bangkok, also Bangkok has much cheaper transportation too.
I kind of like the little boat ride to James Bond Island. Local travel agencies can set you up with tours.

Good luck.
Tourists around your age often head for Koh Phangan.

People usually go to Phuket to relax and enjoy the sand and sun and water. You can buy tours like the James Bond trip, but they are pretty awful, in my opinion.
The only trip for which I've heard consistently good reviews are the John Grey Sea Canoes trips.
I kind of like Phuket, and if you do your research, you can have a really great time.
I know what Kathie means about things like the James Bond trip, but if you do it as described in the following link.......you might find it pretty special.
There is some great info on this link about Phuket so have a good look around.

Phuket is not the best place for budget hotels - infact it is probably the worst place inn Thailand for budget travel. If you are set on an island then the following link gives a good basic overview of options:

When are you planning on going? The weather varies tremendously with the time of year and should have a bearing on where you choose.
Good sites for budget hotels etc. are:
www.hostelworld.com and www.hostelbookers.com
If you mean - We're up for anything -- from lazy beach days, to relaxing spas, to hangovers from crazy nights at discos/clubs, then Patong is where you would want to be.
Although Phuket is without doubt the most expensive place for getting around and day to day costs, there is now such a mass of inexpensive hotels, guest houses, Bed and Breakfast accommodation, in fact Patong has far more budget places than it has luxury places. Accommodation starts from about $15 a night, $30-50 you would have a reasonable room and probably a swimming pool at the hotel. $ 50 a night will get you a place that used to be double that price.
For me, can't stand the place, but if you want Phuket nightlife discos clubs and things then that is where to go. Take care and keep your common sense all the time. be prepared to pay $5 to $7 for even a short ride in a tuk tuk.
Some of the accommodation that is cheapest can be some way from the nightlife area, so think about that one.
Karon and Kata beaches are quieter, the off season you will get 3 star for about $40 a night now.
You get the best accommodation deals local.
