Photos from our trip to Southe East Asia
I recently posted my photos from our trip to SE Asia. We went to Thailand (Bangkok, Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai), Vietnam (Hanoi and Hue), Cambodia (Siem Reap), Laos (Luang Prabang), Singapore and Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto). Great trip. If you have any interest in seeing photos of these places go to www.garyandsusan.shutterfly.com.

sdtravels,
I just looked at Cambodia and Vietnam pics, as this is our next trip (hopefully) next year, but I'll definitely check the rest later. Thanks for sharing them. Wow, you are world travelers!
Quick question about Cambodia and Vietnam: how was the weather? I noticed you visited Jan-Feb, we'll probably go a couple months later, Mar-April, is this a good time? I know Cambodia will be hot, but what about mid-upper Vietnam areas? Any idea? Thanks.

Sorry, I don't know much about the weather there. You might want to check weatherundgerground.com. They usually have pretty good history so you will have a clue. When we were in Vietnam it was a little chilly and misty.

Thank you so much for sharing your pictures! I must admit that I only looked at the sections on Singapore, but I assure you that I appreciate the inspirations you have provided for my upcoming trip from your experiences there. (And BTW, GREAT smile, sdtravels!)
In Singapore -- anything in particular that surprised you, whether for better, worse, or otherwise not what you expected? Any tips you care to offer to an obsessive researcher / planner who is going there for the 1st time?
Again -- many thanks!

Warm Thursday morning greetings from Changi, Singapore, to sdtravels - and many thanks for your lovely photos, including our fine city-state of SIN. Well done.
Also enjoyed your pictures of Japan, a favourite place I'll be flying to in a few hours for Easter weekend with the loved one and friends, followed by meetings in Tokyo, and concluding in Kyoto with some long-time family friends. Should also enjoy more wondrous sakura viewing. Love Japan.
If your travels ever take you back to our Singapore, honoured to offer suggestions. Thanks again for your fine site. Early and warm Easter weekend wishes to you and all from Changi,
robert

Well as you can imagine, everything was very expensive. We stayed at the Bliss Hotel which is right on the edge of Chinatown and across the street from the metro. We really liked the location and the hotel was pretty decent for the price of about $122 a night.
We went to Marina Bay Sands to C'est la Vie on the top floor for lunch because we couldn't get a dinner reservation. If you want to go, you need a reservation and make it as soon as you can, even before you get there. We had the tasting menu and wine pairing and it was over $400 US for two. It was delicious and we were celebrating a birthday and valentines day so we sprang for the big bucks. The menu is online so you can see what else they have that won't cost you a fortune. Alternatively, you can just go to the bar for a drink. The view is worth it.
We really liked going though Little India and the Muslim Quarter. We did a tour for the Muslim Quarter which was very interesting, but you could probably just walk through and get the gist. We spent most of our time in Chinatown since it was so close to our hotel. We had our best Singapore Sling there. The one we had at the Long Bar at Raffles Hotel where it was created was US$27 each and not that good.
Everyone speaks excellent English, it's the official language of business in Singapore. The metro is very easy to take. We had to change trains on a couple of outings, again really well marked.
We did the riverboat tour. It's about $25pp. We didn't realize it was a round trip ticket and that you can get off an on again if you want to see the sights like at the Marina. We just rode the entire round trip.
The entire place is immaculate and beautiful. Enjoy your first trip there. Let me know if you have any questions.
