Peninsula Bangkok rooms
We have a choice of a Deluxe room on floors 4-9, or a Grand Deluxe on floors 10-33. Is it worth the extra money (not much) to go for a higher floor? Any noise or view issues we should consider? Thanks.

there is no noise issue what so ever on any floor...
we have stayed in both....i think i actually prefer the lower floors...last time i stayed on 9...
all have a full river view, depending on direction---up river, down river or across the river towards the oriental...
you will love it
have dim sum in the chinese restaurant

If the room size is exactly the same (and I think it is) there is not a big difference, IMO; that being said however, I would rather be on the 9th than the 4th floor. I believe the 4th is the first level of guest rooms as the first three are lobby, restaurants, ballrooms, meeting rooms, business centre, etc. The 4th may be a little low to appreciate the view. So for the Deluxe you run the risk of course of being put on the 4th floor. I like being up high, and there are many tall buildings in the city that would be part of the view, so the high floor is nice, esp at night. Conversely, from like the 32nd you may not be able to appreciate the river traffic so much, so it's a toss up. Noise is not a huge issue, the windows are thick and do not open (except in balcony rooms which IMO are worth the money but don't seem to be popular on this board), again the lower floors have bit more exposure to the long-tail boat noise, which does start early in the morning, but I don't think this is a big issue unless you are a really really light sleeper. I think the lowest floor I have been on there is about the 8th and highest about the 22nd, and did not notice much noise on the 8th as I recall.

You can get the best of both worlds by booking a room on the Grand Deluxe floors and enjoying your breakfast (hopefully included in the room price) outside by the river where you can see all of the activity up close.

I found privacy to be a potential issue for the lower floors as you may end up eye level with other buildings close by. If you like to keep the drapes open for the view at night you may find that your room is someone else's view. Not so good. The higher floors afford a beautiful view of the city and the river. IMO it is worth the extra cost.

Frankly, I wouldn't worry about the privacy issue. After all, the buildings "close by" are across the river! The windows overlook the river, not buildings on either side of the Pen. Now, if you are in view of somebody's binoculars...
You should be perfectly happy with a deluxe room on the 7th-9th floor.
