Has anyone stayed at or heard of the Pen-Excel Hotel in Singapore? If so, how do your rate it? Is it convenient to shops and means of getting around? Have tried finding it on Internet with no success. Thanks in advance.

About an hour after posting my request, I was reading some posted replies and found the full name for the hotel - Peninsula Excelsior. Would still like to have any advice you may have though.
Hi Barb, the hotel in question is the basic 3-star hotel for Singapore. Someone once said that this means nothing, ah well...
It lies in the North Bridge Road/ Hill Street region. What you will find here is Raffles City which houses speciality shops and the City Hall MRT(subway). That's roughly 300 meters away. Other than that, just opposite is Peninsular Plaza which is popular for locals and tourists alike for Photographis equipment. Most reputed are Cathay Photo and Fotoguide.
Diagonally opposite is St. Andrew's Cathedral(Anglican) and on the other diagonal, The Armenian Church.
Peninsular is your basic hotel with no fringes, not poor but not great service either. If you're looking for a great experience, this won't be IT.
Convenient for access to shopping? Good enough, there are buses running to Orchard Road from here, even to Little India. The City Hall MRT also brings you to Orchard Road and has an underground link(City Link) to the Marina/Suntec shopping area.
Sheldon, thank you for you posting. Will take all you've written re the hotel under careful consideration.
