Hello! I love looking around Fodors, you guys are all so helpful.
I got my passport on Mar 2, 2006 and I want to go to Singapore the first week of July 2006 and I read on one site that you have to have had your passport for 6 months. Is this true and if so do I have ANY options. I am trying to go see an old friend I haven't seen in over 6 years who is in the navy. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me, I am so new to all of this! Thank you guys in advance for any help you can give me.

Okay maybe I read it wrong, do you have to have had the passport for 6 months or does it have to be valid for at least 6 MORE months after you go to Singapore...please help I am so confused???
Relax, nothing to worry about!
You are probably reading where it says a Passport must have at least 6 months 'remaining' validity on it ! So if your passport is valid say for 5 years - after you've had it for 4.5 years 'then' time to renew it because many countries require at least 6 months 'remaining' on it.
Relax and look forward to your trip!
Yup, it needs to have 6 months validity remaining. So your brand new passport is fine. You aren't the first person to be confused about the wording!
I third the above comments...6 months...REMAINING...Happy Travels!
Travelers to the region should note that Singapore and some neighboring countries, particularly Indonesia, do not allow Americans to enter with fewer than six months of validity remaining on their passport under any circumstances.
Thank you all! Now I can start planning my trip!
