I've been considering this for a couple of years and have never been able to find many reviews on it (positive or negative), even here on Fodors.
One caution I would make is that I read somewhere online that there is no connection between cars. That means that if you're in your room, you need to stay there until the next stop. And if you're in the bar car, you need to stay there until the next stop. And so on, which takes away a lot of the benefit of a train tour, for me. I could be wrong, though, so be sure to check with the company through which you're booking tickets.
Good luck! And if you do find info, please post back here!
My husband and I traveled on The Palace on Wheels three and one half years ago. I felt the accomodations were not only tiny (really really tiny) but also dated. There is very little room for luggage. The service (as in most of India) was impeccable. We were able to walk from car to car at any time. IMO this is not a westerners idea of luxury. It is convenient to be taken from place to place, but not at this price and discomfort. Next time we go to India I will plan my own itinerary and use the wonderful Jet Airlines.
