Overnight at Beijing Airport

Due to a scheduling problem, I need to spend a night at Beijing Airport. My flight out the next morning is at 7:30 a.m. Has anyone stayed at the airport sleeping area? Can I make a reservation? What are my other options? Thanks in advance.

Yikes. I didn't know there was a sleeping area. Our tourguide in Beijing connected us with a friend/ coworker to drive us from the airport back to Tienamin area. (spelling??) The guide's friend lived at the airport in Beijing, car/ living quarters provided by the govmnt.

Terminals 1, 2, and 3 all have small guest houses with beds and rooms that can be rented by the hour or overnight. Obviously Terminal 3's are the newest although Terminal 1's have also been refurbished, and see far less traffic than those in Terminals 2 and 3.

Most of the rooms are windowless, although you can sometimes pay more for a bit of natural light. The are furnished to the standard of upper three-star (roughly), and are clean and well-maintained. Those with private bathroom typically have a glass-walled shower cubicle rather than a bath.

In short, for a simple overnight these are convenient, and entirely adequate.

Terminal 1's are upstairs to the left as you enter.

Terminal 2's are down at the basement food court level (just keep taking escalators down).

Terminal 3's are at either (far) end of the building.

They can be booked, but I don't have the number in front of me, and there's very unlikely to be any need.

I'm very jetlagged, but something tells me these guesthouses are called in the mutant English common to Chinese signage, 'Time-rate Lounge', and they are well signposted.

At least two other hotels are due to open near the airport, but at the moment if you want greater comfort there's the Crowne Plaza about six km away.

Do I need a transit visa to go to these sleep areas in all Terminal 1,2 and 3 (i'm going to stay 10-11hours in the airport for transit and don't want to either get out of the airport or get a transit visa)?

The information I got at China's consulate in Rio de Janeiro was that China allows you up to 12h of transit without a visa, but you'd better double check this information, and also be carefull not to have any problems due to possible delays in you connections.

You are required (no idea how they can enforce this, however) to remain at the airport during your 24-hour visa free transit. You can probably get away with it, but you should think of consequences if something happens when you're outside.

Yes, you need a visa to leave the airport.
