One night in Bangkok ... Btw 2 airports

We have a layover in Bangkok between coming back from Myanmar and heading off to Luang Prababng. We land at 7pm Monday night at Don Mueang and leave Tuesday am at 10 am from Suvarnavhumi.

Question, should we just grab a hotel near the morning flight and skip going downtown (we'll have already spent 3 days there) or should we get a hotel downtown and head to the hotel in the morning?

Thanks for your help

Difficult to give a recommendation! If downtown then you will most likely get to your hotel at around 8 - 8.30PM and you will have to leave again at 7.00AM. If that's OK with you then you can have nice meal downtown before bed.

If you go to a hotel near BKK then there's not much to do around there except to sleep.

Traffic isnt bad early morning. Id pick a hotel in Sukhumvit. Only takes about 40 min to swampy airport from there.

Admiral Suites is a solid hotel there.

I would suggest staying at the. Conrad on Wireless Rd. It is very close to the expressway and usually takes us around 30 mins from the airport. One of our favourite hotels in the city. It has some terrific restaurants, it is also a 10 -15 min walk from Polo Chicken if you feel like some simpler and much cheaper fare. Airport hotels are never great!

They said on the CM or LP topic they are on a budget. The Conrad is $200 a night and with a 8pm check in and 7am check out would just be giving money away for not much. Wouldnt even have enough time to use the pool and breakfast would be rushed as well.

We stayed here overnight last Oct. It was about 20 min. from BKK (Suv.) airport and there isn't much around this area but for about $48.00 per night for two including breakfast and transfer from the airport it was fine. its a bit sparse but its also clean and comfortable and the staff was very polite. For an overnight stay it was fine really, especially for the price. However if I had to do it over again I would have booked probably the Novotel which is closer to the airport. Its about 3X the price but hey its personal preference. If you read the reviews from TA most say that for an overnight stay it suits the purpose.

I do not know how far it is from Don Mueang.

While I always prefer to go into the city, with such a short stopover (and on a budget) I'd stay close to one of the airports.

How are things in BKK? Hows the political situation?

BTW we booked a cruise for Feb. 2016, yes 2016 that stops in BKK and Koh Samui. We got a great one day only deal which included the gratuites and the ship and itinerary suited us. As you may recall our last trip to BKK was no trip really as my wife was hospitalized there for practically our entire stay from a nasty gi bug she became infected with in India so hopefully we can see a few attractions this time. She has fully recovered thank God.

Hello Kathie!!

Cheers, Larry.

Never mind I got it. There's a "." at the end of edu and I removed it and the email went out.

I'd just stay at he airport and allow myself the extra 30 minutes or so of sleep in the am. We had a similar situation with a little more time and stayed at the Novotel at the airport. We took the metro into the city when we arrived, had a nice dinner and metroed back to the hotel. Took the airport shuttle which takes about 5 minutes to the airport.

If you stay near Suvarnavhumi Airport, then be very selective with your hotel choice.

We stayed at BS Residence recently, and despite being a great vfm hotel, it was near 2 Thai Beer Gardens. These beer gardens don't up-the-volume until about 2200. Between then and 0300 sleeping was out of the question. Here's my review on TA...

They fly from Swampy not Don Muang.

Depends what you want to do bt 8pm and 11pm whether to choose city or near airport.

It's really no big deal to take the metro from the airport into BKK for the evening.
