One day cruise stop in Penang....what to do?

Any ideas on the highlights of Penang...we only have one day stop on our cruise. Where would you go if you only had one day to see it?

I'm pretty sure your cruise ship will dock near Georgetown. There are some lovely sights to see, such as beautiful old British colonial architecture, there is a short historical walk mapped out around Georgetown, perhaps you can find some details on a net search, but have a look at Fort Cornwallis, the E&O Hotel, and there are many old churches and government buildings in the vicinity. I also suggest you look around the Indian section of Georgetown, which isn't far from the historical area. You can have a tasty Indian lunch or dinner. There are some noted attractions away from Georgetown, like butterfly gardens, batik factories, fishing villages, but I think Georgetown has more than enough to see and experience for one day. You could also charter a trishaw to take you around and see the major attractions, you’ll see the famous Penang trishaws on every street in Georgetown.

I agree with texas, seeing the older parts of georgetwon is nice, if you are on Star Cruises they have a list, even if you don't want an 'organised tour' it gives you ideas, if you are on some other cruise line I gues the excursions would be similar.

Yes... Don't try to go far from Georgetown as you probably don't have enough time, enjoy the historical buildings in Georgetown, it is the downtown of Penang island.
