Now the whole family is coming- best family accommodation in Phuket?
I have previously posted regarding accommodation for my husband and I and our disabled son in Phuket, now my 18yo and 15yo are joining the trip which starts next Friday! So I am looking for accommodation for 5 near Patong Beach. Everything I have looked seems to be a max of three in a room so we now need two rooms and the cost is now about $350 AUD per night. Does anyone know of a family hotel with reasonable access for about $250 AUD (7000Bht) I love the fact my whole family is going but with only a week to book I am starting to panic.

Did you settle on still choosing Patong Beach as a location ?
If you did and it is for 5 of you one of the best places would be the Andaman Beach Suites.
They are just off 2nd Road ( Rat-U-Thit Road ) and it is a walk down to the beach.
This is also good for you with your disabled son and the road down from there to the beach is one of the better ones for a decent sidewalk. I was in there in January and it's as good as always, friends used to often stay as when we lived there it was very near to us.
2 bedroom Family suite that sleeps up to 6 and is aboutr 120 sqm is about AUD 150 a night including breakfast for all of you (!!)
I don't think you can go wrong, for last minute as time is approaching:

That beach area is busy but slightly quieter than just a little further south.

I will add that for eating you just go outside and there are lots of local street food stalls and also a 7-11 on the corner, just acroos the road to the right is bank and ATM so is quite ideal location. It would not be that busy at the moment.
In front past the small temple is the local soccer ground and then the beach, so it's a 5 minites thereabouts stroll to the beach.
In the evenings Rat-U-Thit is not good for walking as very unevan sidealk but walk don to the beach and then turn south you will find restaurants etc and that street into the very busiest part of Patong is a better sidewalk with the wheelchair.
As I mentioned before any assistance needed will just 'happen.
Although termed 'suites' it is pretty much just as a hotel, full room facilities, tv, cable etc etc, there's a gym, restaurant and large pool, it's a hotel except for being called 'suites'.
Otherwise on alternative you will be looking for 2 doubles with an extra bed, buck for buck I doubt you could bet AUD 150 region for 5.

H/Inn local rate should be AUD 305 for 2 rooms, no charge for an under 12 year old sharing, that's with breakfast, but I would recommend forgeting that if you can get a Family Suite at Andaman Suites, you would get 2 bedrooms plus sitting room and that is masses of space for 5 and you get a large suite and save a small fortune into the bargain!

James, you are a gem! Thank you so much for the hints on walking to the restaurants etc. Life can be difficult travelling with a wheelchair and I think you have just made our trip a whole lot better. We are travelling Jetstar only because they fly straight to Phuket. Its our first time international with Jetstar so it will be an experience but I thought it would be easier than to go via Bangkok.

I pressume the wheelchair will go into the hold and a wheelchair will be provided by airport authority at your departure airport ( unless you have one of those designed to go on an aircraft )if you have arranged that with Jetstar.
I don't think you will be able to book specific seats with Jetstar but if you call them before they 'should be able' to pencil you into a row near the main doors for ease.
Make sure that Jetstar 'book' the wheelchair on arrival at Phuket. If this is done the assistant with the wheelchair will be at the pier at the aircraft door, make sure cabin attendant Supervisor is aware of this before you arrive. They 'may' ask you to wait but this is normal ( you may of course have gone through this on previous flights ).
Stay as a family, there is an elevator down to the ground floor ( piers arrival are on 2nd floor ), Immigration is ground floor, the assistant will wheel the chair and accompany you and he 'should' take you to the right hand side in the Immigration hall and take you to a side desk for passport control and you 'should' be out in no time, if the system works you shouldn't have to stand in the lines.
Collect baggage ( plenty of carts available ) and then go to the taxi counter, book a van, this will be fixed price, to take you to Patong.
Whist one of you is booking the taxi change say AUD 100 at the exchange which is 'right there'.
The assistant may stay with you, not sure on that, if he does stick with you to the taxi counter and has sailed you through passport control a B 100 ( AUD 4 ) tip would be appropriate, B 200 ( AUD 8 ) would be a 'very large tip' but that is down to you and how you feel and if the assistant has gone in your opinion over the top to sail you though.
If the assistant leaves you at the baggage reclaim once you have retrieved your wheelchair and you do not have Thai, then a note tip in AUD is ok ( no coins, cannot be changed !! ) so AUD 5 note if he leaves you there.

James, just heard back from the Andaman suites to say they overbooked us by mistake and would we please take two superior rooms instead of the family suite? Do you have any knowledge of the rooms? I only ask as we have stayed in hotel rooms before where we couldn't manouevre my sons wheelchair between the end of the bed and the opposite wall where the TV and dresser usually are. One hotel we could't get the wheel chair inside the room and shut the door at the same time! pS do you want me to bring you some vegemite?

That is annoying! I honestly cannot relate the size to the wheelchair access.
Ok, thinking positive, the Superior rooms are apparently 44 sq.m, you can compare that quickly with say your own lounge area at home to get a picture of size ( I am useless trying to figure out sizes and end up counting floor tiles to get an idea ), so try and compare with room size at home, that 44 probably includes bathroom.
I had a look at the photos for the superior room which appear to be same as standard but newly decorated, the picture 'appears' to look ok, but 1 will of course have an extra bed in it.
Patong Merlin would be around very roughly I guess about AUD 230/240 range for 2 rooms, that is past the H/Inn, but I don't know how the rooms would work on w/chair access, though grounds should be ok but tends to be very busy, but an option, it would be better quality than the suites.
P{ity as the whole Family Suite concept was what was going for the suites.
H/Inn would be about AUD 310 for 2 rooms. Tricky balancing price, location, ease of access walking with wheelchair, remember the H/Inn as we discussed but then price came into it.
The beach Suites are not the lux of the H/Inn and that has to be balanced with the costs. Even other beaches like Kata Beach Resort you would be around AUD 300 range for 2 rooms and mainly.
Pricewise for 5 of you B 4,000 range is, even at this time, quite good value, it is a balancing act of location, ease to get to/from ( e.g you can walk to anywhere without having to negotiate using tuk-tuks both on cost and on wheelchair.
All I can say is the 44 sq.m sounds 'reasonable, but do pace out in your own home so get an idea of 44 sq.m, look at the photo.

The Supalai is in a very (very) quiet and 'very' remote location in the far north east of the island, away from all the other areas.
It is on a hillside and the reach down to the water there is not even a proper beach.

I think the Meridien Beach Resort would fit your requirements. Ramps everywhere, the hotel has its own private - therefore very clean - stretch of beach, near enough Patong and large rooms so 3 to a room is no problem. Think it should fit in your budget.
