We are 2 Americans traveling to Nepal this fall. We have a 15 day tour planned through a good travel company at a good price. Our company feels that China will soon be issuing travel permits again to foreigners for Tibet. We are optimistic... Sept 8th we would fly to Lhasa from Kathmandu and return overland via Everest Base Camp. Great itinerary including Lhasa highlights, Samye, Tandruk, and Mindroling Monasteries, Namtso
Lake, Ganden and Tsurpu Monasteries and then overland to Everest Base Camp via Yamadruk lake, Pholkar, Kumbum, Shakya, Tashilhumpu, and Ronbuk monasteries.
Anyone interested in joining us please let us know...Dates are somewhat flexible since we are planning to be Nepal trekking anyway. We'd be happy to answer any questions!
Nepal, Tibet (looking for travel mates for Sept.)

Hi, i was hoping someone could help assure me. my 20 year old daughter who is an experienced world traveler (eg, India (2x), China, thailand, Burma, Europe, Australia, NZ, etc) is now going to do her study abroad in Nepal. you would think i would be used to this but i worry and was hoping someone could give me recommendations on best airlines there? i recall hearing about a recent airline accident and now am just unsure of how to pick her flight to and from Kathmandu. Any suggestions (and assurances) are really appreciated.
The airline accident you refer to, is, I assume a Mt. Everest flightseeing flight. These are tiny little planes that fly in and out of Kathmandu on a 45 min flight for people to see the Himalayas. They don't fly between destinations in Nepal.
I don't know where you are located, but generally the best connections to Kathmandu are through Bangkok or Singapore. Both Thai Air and Singapore Air are excellent airlines with good safety records. I've flown both into/out of Kathmandu and would do so again.
As I'm sure you know, the flights will be the safest part of her journey. She is more likely to get into an accident on the drive from home to the airport than she it to be in an airplane crash.
thanks i will check those out. yes, she has shown me the pictures from her ride from Delhi to Tashi Jong and the roads and vehicles are scary in that part of the world. thanks for the tip. i should be used to this with her but ....
