Need suggestions for tour companies and question about weather

Jump to last reply

Since I actually enjoy travel planning, a friend wants me to come up with a "big" trip to celebrate his 70th birthday in 2014. I don't think he can afford Africa, so he has mentioned Southeast Asia as a possibility. 2 weeks maximum, I think.

Right now, I'm just looking for the names of some reputable tour companies so I can look at their itineraries. He is thinking about Vietnam/Cambodia first, but is open to suggestion. I don't want to make the whole trip for him, just get him started with possible itineraries and costs.

One problem is his travel time frame, his wife teaches school, so it could be July/August. Perhaps the weather is too wet then, and he may need to choose somewhere else? What would it be like over Christmas break?

He is part of a group of runners, some of whom may also come along, so some physical adventure might be nice. Climbing Mt. Kinabalu in Malaysia?

Please also advise the various airports so I can look at airfares for him, coming from Los Angeles. We haven't been to Asia yet, so I am pretty blind about this.

Thanks.
