Need help with transportation in Malaysia...

My husband and I will be traveling soon to Singapore/Malaysia. We would like to go from Singapore to Mersing, Malaysia and then from Mersing to Malacca, Malaysia. Is it possible to take a bus and/or train on any of these routes? Thanks in advance for any feedback! Isis

There are busses for these routes. You can easily arrange this from Singapore.

There's no direct bus from Spore to Mersing. You have to cross over to mainland Johor Bahru for the bus. Mersing isn't linked by rail. From Mersing, you may have to transit in Kota Tinggi bus station to get to Malacca.

(Thanks, traveltwiddle, I knew you'd have more complete info than I did!)

(Kathie! I read your Penang trip report - it sizzles in the forum. I'm just popping in once a while to see if anyone needs help for Msia. Hope you haven't stopped dreamin' about MM2Home program. A bunch of Japanese just started a MM2H gated comunity in my turf. To escape the winter they said)

BTW isis, southern Johor was inundated by a massive monsoon flood 3-4 weeks back. Johor Bahru and Kota Tinggi was swimming. So, you can expect things to be rather messy for the time being. Are you heading for Tioman island via Mersing? If you're travelling in Feb, it's not the time yet. The monsoon usually says goodbye in mid March. Alternative - Pangkor island in the west coast.

That's pretty much the route I took. Local bus from SNG to Johor Bahru. Bus from there onwards.

Buses in Malaysia are smart and a/c - bus stations are well organised.

No worries.

when will you be traveling? There's been severe flooding in parts of Malaysia (Kota Tinggi especially) of later. Believe things are just about getting back to normal.
