Need for promethium sprayed mosquito nets for SEAsia travel

My husband and I will be traveling in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. We will be mostly staying in hotels but may stay in a home stay or two and on a boat in HaLong Bay. We assume that most places will either have screens or nets. Do most people bring nets or not?

Never bothered. Haven't done a home stay but did do an overnight on Halong Bay.

No all areas have issues.

See, e.g.: https://www.cdc.gov/malaria/traveler...y_table/v.html

Most do not bring nets. Definitely not needed in hotels. We have stayed in many homestays in those countries, most will provide nets but many are old, full of holes and not that effective.

Malaria, Dengue etc. may be an issue in some areas so the best way to avoid is not to get bitten. Cover up and spray with deep. Good luck with that! Neither seem to work for me..

Likely means DEET.

Also if you don't like the stench of DEET, get permethrin-treated clothing (see insectshield.com) and Picaridin-based sprays.

I've never taken a net. Not only do most hotels not need them (they have screens or AC so windows are shut, but only rarely have I seen anything to hang a net from.

I use Picaridin or DEET wipes, and bring a very lightweight plain cotton sarong to cover my head and arms in bed I'm worried about mosses in a room.

The sarong serves double duty as a beach/pool coverup, picnic blanket, shawl, or bath towel so the suitcase space is worth it!
