My 8-year-old son and I are going to be in Leh, Ladakh for 4 days in late June. We are mostly going to take it easy and absorb the culture, but also want to see some monasteries as we are Buddhists. I am currently getting bids for a driver/guide from the following tour companies - does anyone out here have personal experience with any of them to either recommend or not?
Maitreya Tours
Adventure North
Ladakh Tsomori
Windhorse Tours
Any and all advice is much appreciated!

Lucky you! You might try posting this at Lonely Planet's thorntree board as well.
You may get in touch with Rigzin Dorje at thesummitadventures@rediffmail.com . His mobile no. is 09419657123.
Take a quotation with complete details of what is included & what is not. In case you are also hiring mules for trekking, that is one 'grey area'you need to be clear on costing for. As for car, take in writing the duty / mileage limits, per day.
Happy mountaineering!
Ladakh is beautiful. On the advice of a Thorntree poster who, I believe, has stayed in Ladakh for quite a long time, I used the guide services of Mr. Mohd Ali of Shayok Travel Services. He arranged for my various daytrips and the driver/guide was fine and not too expensive. Here's my trip report, which includes his email address. (Ladakh is down near the end, but there's a fair amount about it

Probably a bit late but we have been to Leh twice and can also highly recommend Rigzin. He provided a very competant guide called Dorje and his prices were very reasonable. We are going again next year!
