Myanmar evisa system now working well.
From the 1st September 2014 a new on line evisa system was launched @$50

Whilst more expensive than getting your Visa from a local Embassy it is obviously very convenient for travellers from those countries that do not have a Myanmar Embassy or for those who are not relaxed about posting off their passport.
Latest posts on this thread indicate the system is working well with a turnaround of 2-4 days.

Just an update.
The pre-arranged Visa on Arrival system has now been officially scrapped by Myanmar Government.
For tourists,you now have only two options.Either get a Visa in your passport from an Embassy OR use the online evisa system.
For those travellers who are not on the list of countries applicable for an evisa OR have not got a local Myanmar Embassy the cancellation of the prearranged VOA system does mean that a possible alternative is to stop off in Bangkok for a few days and get one there.
Just a reminder-the evisa is only for Yangon airport arrivals-all all entry points require a Visa in your passport.

Myanmar evisa =scam ???
I have made my Myanmar evisa application with all information fields correctly filled in.
The payment transaction went to a Singapore based company named eNETS.
This transaction was with an unsecured link.... not like the usual creditcard payments.
After having successfully entered all details..eNETS reported transaction complete.
However Myanmar evisa connection reported immediately "SERVER ERROR APPLICATION"
Not having received any autoreply from Myanmar evisa after application,i suspect money gone...no evisa!!!!!!

There are many reports on other travel forums from posters who have had no problems whatsoever in getting their evisa and 3-5 days is the norm.
As Kathie said-you haven't been using a Visa Agent website have you?

Just an update. There are now many posts on evisa threads on TA and TT saying the system is working well with a turnaround of 3 to 5 days and easy processing on arrivals at Yangon.
The evisa has now been extended to 67 countries with a further 24 added on the 2ndOctober14

The Embassy route seems to work efficiently in the US and UK,and it is cheaper, so many will continue to get their Visa in their passport before they travel- as I will be doing next month.

The only problem I had with getting mine was the credit card transaction. I had to try 4 cards before I could get one to go through. I called the issuing bank and they said they were not putting a block on the first 3 cards I tried.
It took 6 days to get the email with the visa letter.

According to the UMTA ( Union of Myanmar Travel Association ) news, online E-visa will be available at Mandalay Airport also, starting from Nov 2014.
At this early stage,Mandalay airport is not yet set up and are awaiting a computer link to the evisa system so the exact start date of operations has not been confirmed.
It is highly unlikely that the evisa will be extended to land borders.

Following on from my post #9, this is the evisa website announcement for acceptance at Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay airports.
Official words are these
"We are pleased to announce that eVisa is now extended to Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay International Airports. You may use your eVisa to enter Myanmar through Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay International Airports even if you have choosen Yangon International Airport as port of entry."

Well that is good to know! Thanks for the report. I will closely watch how that is going, as we will be flying into Mandalay in mid March. Our Myanmar TA said a month or so ago, he thought we would be able to do the e-visa by the time we needed to get ours.
Because we needed several visas and the timing was so tight, we applied for a second passport and received them last month. Once we get the Bali visas we may still try sending the new passport off for the visa. Will wait and see how the online ones for Mandalay are working.

An update for those contemplating an e visa to Myanmar.
I applied for my E visa on Saturday morning, and received immediate confirmation of payment, with a note that business hours apply for the actual visa approval letter.
At 2.00 pm on Monday I received my approval letter. The cost was USD $50, or at the current exchange rate AUD $71. Had I sent my passport to the embassy in Canberra, the cost would have been AUD $64 (including postage and charges for the money order) and probably would have taken around 2 weeks. If you're time poor with getting your visa, this is a great way to go.
