Paul joined us in tandem on the Chindwin over NY on his personal boat (the one you were on) with a small group who had booked on the Mergui cruise which was cancelled as the new boat is crocked and in dry dock in Yangon

Search my name because I had a thread about this Pandaw boat disaster a couple weeks ago because we were interested in the Mergui trip also. There are also a couple interesting looking (and equally pricey) sailing charters. We read all about those and were really apprehensive that we would be out in the sun with no shade basically all the day everyday.

We are in Myanmar now and just talked to a Canadian woman who'd just spent a week in the Mergui on one of the sailing trips. She wasn't impressed with the area and felt that Lonely Planet had definitely overly hyped it. She went to snorkel and scuba dive and said that she saw less coral and fewer fish than many other places she has been. According to her the way the boat was outftted was also less than stellar, especially considering how expensive it was.
As a qualifier though she did say it had rained every day and perhaps that colored her perceptions.
