Trip Report My visit to Lao

This is a continuation of our trip to SE Asia, which started in Thailand (see Thailand for the beginning of the report).

We fly into Luang Phrabang and get picked up by our driver and guide. Our hotel is the Kiridar Luang Phrabang, absolutely beautiful accommodations. Dinner was in town (wish I could remember the name of the restaurant) and then we visited the night market.

Next day we set off on an excellent adventure to visit the protected elephants and enjoy a ride on their back. I actually got to sit on the elephant right behind her head, hugging my legs around her ears. She was so sweet. Afterwards we fed the elephants for their hard work and dedication. Really loved the experience. Next we are on to visit Kuangsi Waterfall. A must see. We hike to the top of the falls and find a picnic bench ready with our lunch. Nice touch. Lunch is delicious and then we are ready for a little sight seeing along the falls and the river. At mid point we change into bathing suits for a plunge in the water. It's very cold and there are little fish that nip at our feet, but the experience is wonderful and really cools us down. We get back into town in time to climb to the top of Phousi Mount for a spectacular view of sunset. A must see, bring your camera. We decided to go for a swim back at the hotel and just have dinner outside at the pool. Everyone was wonderful and dinner was great.

The next morning we are up before sunrise to get into town and ready for Alms-giving. The monks walk along the road and stop as we offer them food. It is a beautiful ritual and well worth the early morning wake up. Back to the hotel for breakfast, don't want to miss a meal and then on for more activities. First we visit Wat Visounnarath and then on to Wat Xieng Thong Temple. Lunch is at a restaurant along the Mekong River. Then on to the National Museum. It is time to head to the airport as our journey continues to Vietnam. See Vietnam for more of my trip report.
