Must see sights of Southern Japan
Hi I am travelling in Japan from the 15th September for two weeks. I would like to travel from Osaka down to Okinawa with my girlfriend. I would love to know as I plan my itinerary sights or places that you could not and would not want to miss if you travelled there again.
Any info from a lovely park to an amazing onsen and wonderful food and accomodation. I would really like to sample the authentic Japanese lifestyle and have a very memorable trip.
For those that travelled without a JR pass due to you have a working holday visa how did you get around?
I have read that there are buses but these take along time, and it's quite expensive to purchase single rail tickets...
Any advice would be very very appreciated
Thanks

Two of the highlights of our trip last April were:
Ferry from Hiroshima to Matsumoto and
Beppu (hot pools to observe and hot pools in hotels + sand and mud baths).
I seem to remember that there are multiple ferries from Osaka.
We missed going to a love hotel in Osaka, maybe you could also fit that in?

Love nest hotels are rented by the hour. Some of them are themed to make the rendevous more interesting. Having spent a night in one - many years ago when Tokyo was filled up - I can say you didn't miss much!

As I understand, they are not only rented by the hour but also by the night. I don't think they are like hooker hotels; but maybe KimJapan or others from Japan can set me straight.
If you search for it you will find some pages describing what's on offer. The glass bowl bathtub was very intriguing for me...

Which area are you actually interested in going? And how are you getting to Okinawa? Because apparently, you can just fly from Osaka or many other airports all over; and Osaka is not "Southern Japan".
