Hello,
have done a search. have plugged in to existing posts.
But just in case there are any newcomers to the forum I'm posting my own question.
I want to travel overland from Moscow to Australia by train. And there it is - the "Trans Siberian".
I know I can go to Beijing or Vladivostok.
I know I can travel by train from Beijing to Hong Kong (and getting from Vladivostok I can work out).
I have found seat61 - am well aware of the Thorn Tree. Is there anyone out there who would care to share their experience of travelling this way independently?
Now I am off to ask on the TT but look forward to any and every reply.
Thx.
moscow to Vladivostok INDEPENDENTLY

I thought I replied to this, but apparently not... For trip reports on my "Scotland to Saigon by Rail" trek, visit www.wilhelmswords.com/rtw2004. The trip reports peter out in Kunming, but from there I took the train via Nanning, since the mountain line to Hanoi had been washed out and not repaired.
I took the Trans Mongolian, not the Trans Siberian, since I wanted to spend a little time in Mongolia, and used the Thomas Handbook, not the LP Guidebook. I ran out of rails in Saigon and continued by plane and bus (and some trains in Thailand). If you have questions you can email me through the website, or ask here.
