Someone asked this question just a couple of days ago.

The thread mentioned above does not really fully discuss the merits of the Courtyard in Sheung Wan on the western end of the harbour on Hong Kong Island, as the poster on that thread could not use her Marriott points there, so I just want to throw out a few comments on that hotel. I really like the location of this hotel, as it is in a very interesting, very local traditional neighborhood full of medicine shops, dried fish stalls, tea stalls, temples, and all sorts of old-fashioned shops you don’t find in many parts of Hong Kong any longer. It is not in the centre of upscale shopping or restaurants (although a few notable ones are not too far), but has a real low-key charm of its own. Their rooms have some very nice views and their corner suites are really something. If you want a feel for a traditional Hong Kong neighborhood, this area is IMO an excellent choice. Its drawbacks are that it is out of any main area and is not near any MTR stop. However, IMO the pluses make up for this. It is on a major bus line and on the street tram line, and the hotel offers a shuttle bus service, so transport should not be a major issue. (Plus the neighborhood is so interesting for walking.) The hotel has no pool and the rooms, other than corner rooms or suites can be small, so get the largest room you can.
There is currently only one Renaissance hotel in Hong Kong: the Renaissance Harbour View.
I also should mention that if your trip is after about March of 2011, that a brand new stunning Ritz-Carlton will be opening in Kowloon. THAT would be my choice for hotels if you can get rooms (and you can use Marriott points there to the best of my knowledge if the purpose of your question is to choose a Marriott brand to redeem points at.) It will have the best view of any hotel in the world. No hyperbole there, and views are superb in every direction. They ought to be, as the lobby is on the 101st floor or so and rooms above that. You actually look down onto Hong Kong.
