I am still wondering where to stay over our anniversary in Singapore. I have researched both hotels and both look fabulous. We are after lots of shopping combined with a bit of relaxation around a nice swimming pool.
I realise both these hotels will require the use of transport to get into Orchard Rd. What is the access to restaurants etc. by foot from either hotel?
Which would the nicer area be to stay in for 4 nights?
Also which is the nicer hotel regarding standard and facilities?
Mandarin oriental Singapore or Raffles Hotel Singapore

The Four Seasons is connected to the Hilton by a covered a/c walkway and the Hilton is on Orchard rd. Within a 10 - 15 minutes walk from the FS there is a new mall, I forgot the name, and most of the top end shops are quite close by.
If you want to be close to shopping then the FS is a better choice IMO. The last time I stayed at the Raffles was a long time ago. I did remember creaky floors in the old wing. The last time I stayed at the FS was last year and I really like it there.
I always like to stay somewhere I can access the MRT easily, as I use it to get all over Singapore. My old favorite is the Fairmont. I'm looking at the Intercontinental for our trip in Nov. Hanuman's suggestion of the Four Season is excellent. Raffles, is, of course, very old world elegant. It's not quite as convenient to the MRT. And the MO is a bit far from the MRT.
Singapore is quite compact and the MRT and taxis are both very convenient. As long as you are staying in the downtown area, it doesn't matter that much which hotel.
The service at Raffles is simply fantastic and we LOVED staying there. It isn't as conveinient but as Singapore isn't that big, don't let that put you off.
Facilities at Raffles are also fabulous, and I quite like chimes restuarant which is just over the road from Raffles. It's also a nice stroll down to the Marina ( although probably a 15 min walk) but as taxis are super easy as I say location isn't that much of an issue in SP. For me the old word elegance and fantastic service makes Raffles a must stay in SP ( IMHO)
That said look at the Fullerton Bay hotel, great location for the Marina and the bar at the top is one of my favourites!
I love Doc Cheng's at Raffles - we always have to eat there when we are in Singapore.
Frankly, you are spoiled for choice in Singapore - which is why I don't have our reservations for Nov yet. I promise myself I'll make them once our remodeling is done.
Nicky, I thought the rooms at the Fullerton were quite small.
Kathie, are to talking about the Fullerton or the Fullerton Bay?
The Fullerton, oops - you were talking about the Fullerton Bay.
I stayed at Raffles 2 years ago and would say it is a 6 star hotel. I know there are no 6 star but if there where it would be in that category. Kathie is right Cheng's at Raffles is on of the best Chinese resturants I ever ate at and we have frequented the best in NYC, New Jersy and SF.
Great Suggestion! Thanks
My husband just booked with the Raffles Hotel because got an incredible deal from Expedia.
Much appreciation and respect.
Let us know how you get on.
Is Doc Chengs only open for dinner? We will be in Singapore for 4 nights in October and I want an early birthday dinner as our flight out the next day is 6AM. Or a late lunch. Thanks so much.We are staying at the Conrad Int. Centenial
Doc Cheng's is open for both lunch and dinner. It is not a Chinese restaurant, though I believe Raffles does have a lovely Chinese restaurant. It is pan-Asian. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is great. Try to get one of the charming curtained booths.
Thank you Kathie-I have noted it. I have been taking notes from all you Fodorites for over a year for our month trip to SEAsia.Thank you all for all your information.
