Malaysia - Beach Suggestions

Does anyone have recommendations for good beaches in peninsular Malaysia? My parents and I will be spending a weekend in Malaysia and would like to do one day at the beach. We will be driving from Singapore and would like to stay somewhere within a 2-4 hour drive of Singapore. We don't have time to take a ferry ride to an island so any suggestions actually on the peninsula would be great.

With those criteria, I can't think of any place in Malaysia that fits the bill. I would think that if you wanted a beach that wasn't in Singapore, the closest place would be Bintan Island in Indonesia, which is just a 45 minute ferry ride from Singapore.

The beaches I know of in Malaysia are farther from SIngapore than that. I enjoyed Kuantan, but it's a short flight away. Michael's right, Bintan is closest, but the beaches there are not great.

I thought Perhentian Besar was a wonderful place to relax and snorkel but it's not even close to meeting your reqs.

You should certainly be able to get to Malaysia for less than that. Look at alternate routings.

Really! Tiger advertises a headline rate of S$19. You probably won't get that, but you should be able to get a round trip for under US$100 on Tiger, Jet Star Asia, etc.
