Malaysia Airlines-Access Asia Pass
We're planning a trip to SE Asia, primarily to go to the Philippines for a wedding, but would like to see other places as well. We found out about this wonderful (?) Access Asia Pass through Malaysia Airlines that allows you to travel to as many as 24 cities in 30 days. The originating flight is either to LAX or Newark. And the price even for prime season is under $900 (plus taxes, etc). Great deal, right? Well, 2 1/2 weeks later we are confirmed for all flights (Taipei, KL, Manila, Bangkok, Singapore, Kota Kinabalu, Taipei) but can't get confirmed for the last leg Taipei to LAX. So no ticket! We're on a waiting list but, how long will that last? Has anyone else had better luck? Is there another airline with similar offer? Help?!<BR>Thanks in advance for any and all responses, Anne

I think with this pass you would have to fly back to Kuala Lumpur because Malaysia Airlives does not fly from Taipei to Newark. Try re-arranging your itinerary. You should be able to get from Taipei to Kuala Lumpur, then likely next day. KL to Newark.

We used the Malaysia Air Pass in May 02 and used the Cathay Pacific Pass in Nov 98. The MAP was certaiinly the better deal. We went to Burma, Cambodia, Bali, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, and Penang. Less expensive, more destinatins,5 star hotel at KL excellent rates, unbelievable buffet breakfast, cheap rate via 800 reservations in USA more expensive on internet Pan Pacific Hotel. The other Hotel Concord it's okay for pueudo economy hotel, but it really is substandard! You will spend less time in travelling to your various destinatins KL is closer to all destinations offered. Look at a map of Southeast Asia. CP does not offer Burma or Cambodia and serveral other destinations. If anyone wants more information feel free to e mail us. Good luck Ed & Gloria. I forgot MA also offers service to Manila and Cebu.

yeah Malaysia Airlines Asia pass is defnitely a better deal, I'm planning on a trip next year with few friends and gonna travel all over asia and for additional US100 you get 5 round trip package within Malaysia! you could also ask for a stopover on your way to or from Malaysia...totally awesome and lookin forward to the trip!! plus Malaysia Airlines is one of the best airlines in the world with best inflight service...so it won't hurt!

I flew Malaysian in November. BEST service and food I've ever experiences (and this was in tourist class). Their pass is a much better deal (30 days) vs. Cathay's. More options. But you do have to connect via KL. In KL I stayed at the Concorde Inn.. nothing fancy but very friendly, clean and I loved their Malaysian buffet breakfast. Their is an airport (short term) hotel and the other option by KLIA is the Pan PAcific. Highly recommend flying Malaysian.
