When I travel to Singapore on business in about a month, I have the choice of staying at the M Hotel (which is much closer to the office) or The Swissotel Stamford. If you have stayed at the M Hotel, please provide your thoughts on it. Also, I would appreciate any comparative insights on the 2 hotels. Thanks!

The M hotel is situated at Tanjong Pagar at the far end of the business district with not much else around the area except office buildings. The Stamford would definitely be a much better chioce. It is centrally located, attached to a shopping mall and the MRT (mass rapid transit/subway) is just at its doorstep so you can get around very easily. Foodwise, lots more choices here with restaurants within walking distance. The M Hotel room have been recently refurbished but the rooms at the stamford (used to be known as Westin Stamford)are much more luxurious. Plus you get a great view of the city.
I agree with both hands and legs up! I stayed 2 nights in stamford hotel at above 40 floor up last August, facing the marina bay area. I have taken some photos, if you like I can email it to you.
Location-wise, Swissotel is much better for reasons that murff has pointed out. Furthermore, the Tanjong Pagar area goes 'dead' during weekends - offices, many of the food outlets, and the few shops in the area aren't open for business.
If you stay at the Swissotel, you can take a short MRT trip to the office; it is just 2 stops from City Hall station to the Tanjong Pagar station and the ride will only take 5 minutes.
