Hi
I will be moving to Korea and working as an ESL teacher in the coming year and would like to know as much as possible about how much it will cost me. Specifically, taxes, accomidations (renting), food, etc. I am a Canadian so if you know how it compared to the cost of living in Canada that would be great, but any information is appreciated.
Thank you Tinker

Will you stay in Seoul?
Then, it will cost a little bit more expensive than Toronto. But you will be able to find cheaper places if you try...Seoul is a quite big city.
Koreans have interesting rental system.
They loan rooms and apartments for deposit. If you deposit 25.000$(us$), then you can rent a neat studio without any additional payment. Of course you can get the whole money back at the end of your lease. This is possible because of the high interest rate in Korean banks. If you have enough money with you, try this system. This is much cheaper than the monthly payment lease-if you lease the studio(above) with monthly payment without deposit, you will have to pay about 700$ a month (8400 a year)!
I'm native Korean. if you have further question, you can email me whenever youi like...^^
