Leaving for BKK.

I'm off in an hour! I leave for Edinburgh airport on my way to Bkk. I am so excited but also grateful to all those who advised me whether consciously or not. For instajnce, I spent this morning reading a fantastic trip report by gwenmai. It is printed out as well as others and of course all my directions and advice from Bob. What a gem!
Do you think I'll find it quite warm in BKK?
It was snowing here in the wilds of Scotland yesterday.
Many thanks to you all.
Margaret
I shall write a trip report when I return.

Margaret-there's a small chance it could be a tad warm in BKK. Have a great time. We look forward to your report.

I sent a message last night but it evidently didn't go off!
Well, I'm HERE!!!!!!!!!!
Do you know the song---'mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun?'
I'm neither but off I went to the China House today for lunch. I had dim sum and it was terrific. The heat is wonderful. Why did nobody tell me that I would be burnt to death by Thai curry? I had that here in the hotel last night and nearly died!!!!
I shall write more later today as I'm going to buy internet access for the day. I'm almost out my hour.
Thanks again to everyone
Margaret

if you look carefully you might be able to find a local internet place for 25B per hour, if not the going rate is often 50B for 15 minutes....

look around and ask at the hotel

speaking of the hotel, how is it??

I guess the Delinquency Penalty has once again been avoided. Keep us apprised of your whereabouts and goings-on. Big surprise the Scottish palate was taken aback by Thai curry.

Firstly, the hotel is very good. The only problem I have is with the very limited English of the staff--especially at reception. Another time I would stay at a larger hotel. I had no problem when I went for lunch at the Oriental and I'm not on a budget when I go on holiday. I thought a smaller hotel in Bangkok would have been better since I'm travelling on my own but now I think differently.
In a wee while I'm off for the sky train. HELP! I'm going to Chatuchak.
Yes! In the middle of the day!
Tomorrow I'm off to Chiang Mai and I shall write more about my trip but meanwhile I'll write about my flight out. This is not to be read by sensitive people like Bob and gpanda, so any others who are of a delicate disposition, please don't read the next message.

WARNING! NOT FOR SENSITIVE EYES!

I set off from Edinburgh after spending the night at the Hilton there as I don't trust my husband to get me to a flight in time.
I was on KLM and it was fine. However it left an hour late and I had an hour and a half to get my connecting flight.
I don't panic and this time was no exception and I got my flight okay.
I had been changed to China Airlines and I looked up the reviews just before I left and they read well so I was set!

WARNING! NOT FOR SENSITIVE EYES!

I set off from Edinburgh after spending the night at the Hilton there as I don't trust my husband to get me to a flight in time.
I was on KLM and it was fine. However it left an hour late and I had an hour and a half to get my connecting flight.
I don't panic and this time was no exception and I got my flight okay. {It was 2 hours late in leaving! Was this an omen?}
I had been changed to China Airlines and I looked up the reviews just before I left and they read well so I was set! I got to my seat up the stairs but the first thing that hit me was the smell. Nobody had mentioned this in the reviews. I managed to squeeze past my neighbour to get to my window seat but only with a huge amount of effort. He was about 30 stone--over 400 lbs! Well the smell was unbelievable. The flight attendant came with drinks and I asked her about the stink but she just smiled. I couldn't ask the fellow next to me as he was reading a foreign paper. Oh heck! If this was a bus I could just get off! Along came another flight attendant with hot towels so I asked him and he also smiled. I thought that they were used to this stink. Would Bangkok be like this? I want to go home! Please!
I pulled the blanket over my head to get rid of the smell. That was better.
Someone tapped me on the shoulder. It was the flight attendant with hot drinks. No thanks! I want to die! Just then, my neighbour moved to get his drink and he let off the most enormous fart. Good grief! It was HIM! He farted again and again and the air was filled with his smell and I was choking. The folks across the aisle were looking at ME!!!!!!! I shouted over, "I'm not making that smell." I was almost in tears by now. I just HAD to move or get off but just as I was about to ask, a gentleman came up with the flight attendant and spoke to my neighbour. I don't know what was said as the blanket was covering most of my face by now but he went with them. Another flight attendant came and sprayed the air with perfume.
What a start to my holiday!
End of warning!

To get back on topic, China Airlines are super and the food is wonderful. The flight attendants are so attentive.
I shall post a proper trip report tomorrow.
Margaret

Bob has NEVER sat next to anyone that smelled worse than He. A very unlikely happening. I loved the part about the perfume. Those flight attendants really have seen it all.
