Am I the only one to resist the high cost of hotel laundry service? The prices usually seem over the top to me. Yeah, I have the cash to pay it, but resist unless really in a crunch. Having SPG status is a blessing given the free laundry perk. Also, being a swimmer, at least one pair of underwear gets "washed" each day
When staying at a non-SPG hotel, I usually use a small laundry on Soi 8 near the 7-11. I can get a large bundle done for about 240 baht. started to use a place on soi19 on my last trip, but they had switched over to charging by the piece.

Amazing Malaysia Trip!

please stop swimming in your undies, we swim there too.
i find most of the hotel laundries have a small office where you can take and p/u your laundry for about 40% off... but the hotel laundry comes back so nicely presses
we use local laundries with great success... they are all over thailand..
Rhkkkmk, thanks for the tip about the hotel offices. Agree about the pressing.
I sometimes ask the maid if they would iron a shirt or pair of slacks for twenty baht an item. If they agree I compensate them much more.
Sorry about fumbling your name, my fingers have a mind of their own today!
I never bother with laundries, I do all my washing in the hotel sink. My clothes don't get to travel unless they drip-dry successfully.
Disgusting swimming in dirty underwear and using the public pool to wash them.
Wow - I guess you can not detect a tongue in cheek comment? Here is a hint: the smiley face after the comment.
we got it, we just didn't want others to follow your suggestion
Why the hell would you mention it in the first place if there's no truth in it?
I guess humor escapes you? Or are you spring loaded to throw a sharp elbow my way?
If that was humour then it's humour in very bad taste.
Rhkkmk, I knew you did.
Thursdaysd, I should do more of that now. Actually, did when I was younger and had fewer coins in my pocket.
Mrs Ht's statement after reading this thread
"eewwwwwww that is sooooo gross"
I tend to agree
(Wow... ganging up???)
I always use the washing machine in my apartment and then hang the items around the apartment to dry. The dryer function on the washer/dryer isn't REALLY a dryer in the same sense that it is in the USA.
That said, soi 8 has a number of very cheap laundry places, which I have used in a pinch.
Carol, those Thai serviced apartment dryers will drive you to distraction! Always get a chuckle thinking of trying to dry a load - eight hours and it was still wet!
At the four points, the desk put me on to a laundry who came to the hotel and picked up your stuff and returned it the next day!
We have found the door man at most hotels know where the "local" laundry is near by. Some are by the piece and some by the Kg. Anyway, doing laundry once or twice a trip beats bring a huge suitcase full of stuff.(Half of which you don't wear.)
Good point, Karen and rayong, about the hotel staff knowing where to get laundry done. And I sooo agree about having my suitcase a bit lighter (room for more purchases...hahaha) if I do my laundry.

Define old and define overweight? you might tag a few of us!
FYI- some skinny young people can also smell pretty bad if they don't wash their clothes properly and take a shower every day. In some cases it may be a culture thing and it could be their diet as well as some foods (indian, mexican, for example) can at times impart smells thru the skin.
Whenever I eat certain foods - such as some curries- my wife can smell it as it permeates the skin.

I got more wrinkles and cresses than the law allows so I shower at least twice a day
I do agree that some folks travel too light and try to wear clothes too many times between washings.
