Langkawi accomodations

I am off to visit the orangutans in Borneo in July and would like to follow up by going over to Langkawi to snorkel for a bit. I am wondering if there are any nice accommodations such as beach chalets or bungalows that are thatched or have some nice character. I do not want to stay at a 4 Seasons or any of the other large homogeneous properties. Thanks so much.

Why are you heading to Langkawi to snorkel? Some of the best snorkeling in the world is off the coast of Sabah.

I LOVED Bon Ton resort on Langkawi. Bags of character and great food. ( lots of cats too, so not for you if you don't like cats)

Kathie is correct that you would be better off for snorkelling in Borneo where some of the sites are world class. I have dived in both areas and whilst Langkawi does have some decent snorkelling sites off some of the smaller islands, July, being the rainy season on that coast, is the wrong time to check them out. Even if the weather is ok the visibility will not be good.

That said, I too loved Bon Ton which would fit your requirements nicely except of course, as smeagol points out, you don't like cats.

For more luxury, http://www.thedatai.com.my/?page_id=4 it is a large (ish) property but does have villas in the rainforest and could not be described as homogeneous.

THanks to all of you who replied. I also just reazlied my posting says Maldives and should say Malaysia. Not sure how to fix that and it is important.

Kalthie, Can you tell me where on Sabah is great for snorkeling?

P.S. I LOVE cats, I have 2 of them. WOnder how and where that rumor got started. We all may be in on how urban myths get started. This is sooo funny.

BW Crelleston wasn't saying you didn't like cats, he was just agreeing that Bon ton would fit your requirements except if you didn't like cats.....
It's a fantastic place, one of my most favourite places I have ever stayed and the food at their rsstuarants is fabulous.
