Kyoto Station to Osaka Itami Airport

Believe me, I have tried finding this info online & not having traveled to Asia (much less Japan) I don't have a clue. I am having to help him with this because he is too busy with training on his end.

Hubby is on a business trip and his company is not helping in any way except paying for it. They have really messed him around on this but luckily he had the forethought to look over his itinerary and figure out some issues ahead of time. For instance, he flies into Haneda in Tokyo yet 3.5 hrs later he flies out of Narita in Tokyo. The quickest method I found to get from one to the other was the limosine bus (75 minutes). A private car was $250 and I don't believe it was any faster.

My issue now is getting him from Kyoto Station to Osaka Itami the most efficient way. His flight from Osaka to Tokyo departs at 8:30 a.m. Anyone have experience with this? Can anyone please provide me with help here? Thank you.

Does he stay at a hotel in Kyoto overnight before he will go to Itami airport?

We have booked airport shuttle service through the hotel concierge we stayed in Kyoto. Two of our party members booked a shuttle to Itami airport (2000Yen/pp in 2005), two booked a shuttle to Kansai airport (3000Yen/pp in 2005). You'll need to book with the hotel concierge at least 24 hours ahead. That was during a time when 1 USD converted to more than 100Y, so we took the effortless way.

This is the same trip? From Kyoto to Narita for his flight out? How about forfeit everything and just take Shinkansen to Shinagawa and switch to the Narita Express? 3.5 hours total travel time from Kyoto to NRT and retain some sanity afterwards.

Otherwise, there is a direct limousine bus from Kyoto Station (on the side of Hachijo Dori) every 20 minutes, starting at 5:50a, and takes 50-55 minutes:

For a 8:30a departure, I guess the 6:10a bus may be okay?

Thank you. Yes, he is staying at a hotel less than minute from Kyoto station. I will forward your reply to him. I don't know if he has asked there at the hotel. Thanks again.

rkkwan,
I wish he could just scrap the trip to Osaka. I don't get it either but I guess he needs to stick with the original plan. He has a couple of others with him. I don't know but suspect they are relying on hubby to lead them. I forwarded your reply as well. thanks.

A bit off the topic, but but following rkkwan's suggestions, do you know that ANA has a 7:55 AM flight from Itami to Narita? No change of airports involved in Tokyo if he can alter the Osaka-Tokyo flight. In my view, even a flight from KIX to Narita would be preferable than the present arrangement.

Hi WillJame. I don't know about what fees that would involve if he changes his flight itinerary. I can't assume anything about this. When they sent him to Korea recently they paid for everything plus gave an extra $300 per week for walking around money.

This trip is nothing like that & Japan is so much more expensive. Frustrating.

I agree about your opinion that KIX to Narita would be perferable.

It's been a few years since the original post, and I have the same question. So I am curious if the answer has changed. We are traveling with a group. Our last night is at the Hearton hotel in Kyoto. We are considering booking a flight out of Itami at 8:20am the next morning. We need to fly out of Itami to use our frequent flier miles.

I tried to look up info on the bus service, website, but the page I found was not in English.

Can we get to the airport in plenty of time? If the first bus still leaves at 5:50 and takes an hour, that gives us 1.5 hours before our international flight.

Our flight back to LAX does not leave NRT until 3 pm that day.

Thank you.

There is no need for you to show up 1.5 hours before your flight. According to the JAL web site, "When you take a domestic flight for connecting to an international flight, please make sure to present yourself to the domestic check-in counter at least 30 minutes before departure in order to allow us to prepare necessary onward arrangements." For an 8.20 departure, you could arrive at Itami at 7:30 and still have plenty of time to spare.

Here is the English page of the airport bus to Itami from Kyoto:
