Krabi

Hi,
I am planning a visit to Krabi during first week of Aug 10. Though I am aware that it will be raining during that time, but not aware how bad will it be. Will it be a total waste to visit that time, please advice.
Incase it is ok to go, please suggest which is the best area to stay and a good hotel. I am looking for a 4-5 star property and my budget is US $ 125 P/night.

Regards

Ash

It depends on what you want to do . I think it is cloudy to partial sunny. If it rains it is only for short periods of time, not all day every day. Both our times in Krabi we stayed at the Sheraton. It is a bit out of town, but nice facilities. We have had a car, so that made getting around easy. If you want a treat go to the Amari Vogue which is further out for lunch or dinner. The setting is spectacular, but more than your budget... Food is great. Be sure to hire a boat to get you out to the islands and the national park out there on the islands. From Krabi you don't need a speed boat, a long tail will do. We used Andaman camp and cruises . They were delightful and gave a super fun day. Just google them andd they will come up.

If you are not going to have a car, you might want to stay more centrally located.... Ao Nang maybe. I stayed at AoNang Princeville Resort last August for 2 nights for under $100 per night...breakfast included. We had lovely weather, other than being hot, as usual. I agree that rain showers would probably be sporadic and would not last all day.

I loved Krabi! For my Thai friend and I, the Princeville was the perfect location because we did not want to drive a car. We wanted to be able to walk to restaurants/shops/boat dock, etc. We did a 4-island boat tour that was super!

Have a great time. For a special treat, ride in a side car taxi up into the forested hills! The air was refreshing and cooler!

No advice on a hotel. Railey is really lovely. It is possible it is out of your price range, I'm not sure. You get there by boat from AoNang. Short boat ride. Railey is not an island. It is on the mainland, just 'down' from AoNang, but I guess there isn't a road to it, so you go by longtail. I have not set foot on that beach, but I've seen it from a speed boat. Looks very nice!!

I think the Sunrise Tropical resort in Railay is still under $100 a night. It's quite a good value. I was there in August and had a great time.

I really enjoyed the Lalaanta Hideaway Resort. We paid $105 per night in high season so I bet is it cheaper in August. www.lalaanta.com
