Keeping the Girlfriend Happy on the beach in Thailand

Hi all, this is a great forum and I wonder if you can help me out.

The girlfriend and i are travelling to Thailand in early December. We have good plans for Bangkok and Chiang Mai but we're looking advice as to a good beach resort.

We're willing to go to any location, but preferably something less developed and quiter (e.g. not Phuket). Girlfriend has a list of things she's looking for...a quiet resort, view of the beach from the room, private plunge pool or something.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (both for helping with what will surely be an amazing trip and for helping keep the girlfriend happy).

Thanks!

The pool villas at the Dusit Princess on Koh Chang have private plunge pools - and outdoor jacuzzi tubs - but they don't have views of the sea. Other room types do, though, so it's a trade-off.

... keeping a girl happy on a Thai beach ... where to begin...

... well, you already have some fine thoughts, and now, prepare to open your wallet, for a surprise spa treatment for your sweetie - at the Amanpuri ... (to date, our only stay at an Aman property, and sad to say, it has turned mrs. m into one of those dreaded 'amanjunkies'; please help me) ...

... seriously, arranging for 'surprise' spa treatments for my then girlfriend, and now wife - either at a resort or business travel hotel - well, they have always been most gratefully acknowledged. (And, just between us: those spa treatments - albeit rather pricey at times - serve an exquisite ulterior purpose of keeping her confined to a small room, and far, far, away from those horrifying luxury shops she so adores. Our little secret.) ...

... savour your tender Thai times ... (perhaps, with a certain Singaporean airline) ...

Hi

My wife and I went to Thailand last year and we did Bangkok and Samui. On Samui you can find lots of nice resorts...it all depends on what you are willing to pay Here is my trip report with pictures and links http://gardkarlsen.com/Bangkok_trip_report_2007.htm . I hope that you can find some useful info there.

Regards
Gard

There are lots of beaches in Thailand, but you can narrow your choice by the likely weather. In December, the weather will be best in Phuket, Krabi or Khao Lak. You should choose one of these as your beach.

Phuket is very built up, but there are several hotels away from everything and in isolated coves. When your at the hotel, there is very little other activity. The afore-mentioned Amanpuri is one example.

Krabi is also a delightful beach. Either the Amari Vogue or the Rayavadee might suit.

Sarojin in Khao Lak looks gorgeous!! I would definitely book it for our trip next Feb if it wasn't for the fact that they don't allow kids...So the resort is definitely going to be quieter! Khao Lak is quieter and less developed than Phuket.

Re the Sarojin - it always gets great press, but read some of the comments by people who have really stayed there on this forum.
