Kathie Reporting in from Borneo

Hello, everyone! I am now in Kuching, having spent some time in Kota Kinabalu and in the Danum Valley at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge. The BRL experience was unforgettable. I will write an extensive report when I get home, after the first of December. I really feel like we discovered an off-the-beaten-path gem. Yes, I have leech stories!

Kota Kinabalu is a bit gritty, not an especially attractive town. But it is the gateway to seeing some incredible natural wonders. There is now a new Meridian Hotel that has just opened and some interesting restaurants have opened. (One in particular we had a fabulous meal - reviews will follow in the full report)

From Kuching, we fly back to Bangkok where we have reservations at Bed, dental appointments (to test out health care in Thailand), spa reservations at Face, and dinner reservations at the Indian part of Face among other activities.

Glad its proving a worthwhile journey - I'm looking forward to your report. Hope all goes well in Bkk for you both. Hope the dentist is to your liking - I find the one I see is great. Did you choose a dentist or just rely on whichever they give you. I took a punt - can't really say why I picked the one I did except that he had an extensive range of hours so it was easy to get appointments. He's great as it happens.

Anyway I'm sure that Face will cancel out any negative moments and prepare you for the long trip home.

Dear Kathie,

Did you meet up with the tiger leaches in Danum? Were they as bad as I was told?

Kathie-Hope you're having a great time. Look forward to the full report and hopefully the pics. Ignore Bob's ROS comments. He can't tell a polar bear from a panda bear. True comfort is wasted on such a plebian.

Hi, friends, we're back in Bangkok now. We spent all day yesterday getting from Kuching to Bangkok... a reminder that even the best laid plans can go awry! Anyway, we're ensconced in a lovely little suite at the Royal Orchid, and getting ready to head back out to more shopping in Bangkok. We have reservations at Bed tonight...
