Karen Hill Tribe silver pendants in BKK or Phuket?

Does anyone know the best place (if there is a place) to buy Karen Hill Tribe silver beads, pendants, or other jewelry in Bangkok or Phuket? Other people's friends ask for knock-off purses; mine want hand-made silver pendants! ;-) TIA!

You will have much better shopping in Bangkok rather than Phuket. There are quite a number of stores that carry hilltribe jewelry. Most of it is modern or reproductions. You can look at the Thai craft stores in the major malls such as Siam Paragon or Gaysorn Plaza or you can look at the huge silver shops on New Road near the Oriental.

In Phuket, you can expect to pay more and not have the selection you'll find in Bangkok.

Try the Exotic Thai boutique around the top floor of Paragon at the far north end of the mall. They have all types of jewelry. It's a huge bazaar with lots of individual shops. I've bought both jewelry and also a Karen hilltribe coat with the frou-frou red collar. Happy Travels!

Thanks to you both. I just want to make sure I don't pick up something that turns out to have "Made in China" stamped on the back! ;-)

If you want the old pieces you can look at the stores in River City or go to the Golden Triangle in Siam paragon. They are expensive but totally different than the things made now for tourists. If you want the newer pieces, they have some in the big store World (I think that is the name) next to the Oriental Hotel.
